Music Workshops 2026

If you are intersted in being in a workshop, looking for instruction on song writing, bluegrass styles of playing, bluegrass instruments or singing, I invite you to complete the workshop participant application and tell us a bit about your skill level and area of interest. We are currently designing the workshop plans and need your input.

Music is a lifelong journey some say. Music bridges generations and ethnic boundaries with opportunities to share, mix and learn from others. People of all ages and skill levels are welcome to sign up for the workshops.

A music workshop in Canada can be a Jam with a theme, other workshops offer learning a tune or two. At a bluegrass festival it can be a great way to bridge the gap between artist performances and attendee participation, acting as an intimate, educational, and community-building experience. These workshops allow fans of all skill levels to learn from top artists, improve their musicianship, and engage in the "bluegrass way" of musical interaction.

SONGWRITERS WORKSHOP

Workshop Description:

Learn the bones of songwriting, and shortcuts that make songwriting simple for everyone of all ages. Then pen a tune collectively in this fun and easy-to-join workshop led by Heather McLeod. The brand-new song will be debuted on the main stage before the day is done!

Heather McLeod is a singer songwriter with three jazz albums and three folk-tinged albums of her originals, plus a few film scores. She toured internationally back in the '90s, has composed hundreds of songs and visited hundreds of Canadian schools as Artist in Residence. She moved to Thunder Bay to work at CBC Radio back in 2002 and has made it her home.
