The Camp Duncan Site is a beautiful location for a festival. The construction of the covered area will make a great stage location with seating if it rains. It has power and lighting for all the necessary equipment to run the music stage. There is lots of room for craft and vendors
The kitchen and dining hall behind will offer food, a dining area, concessions and secondary stage for workshops.
The canoe shed down by the lake will make a great location for an additional stage in future years.
The craft cabin for kids, beach for swimming , accessible washrooms and showers tenting areas and or cabins make it a great location to host volunteers and provide the longer festival experience for enthusiasts. Music making the night before around the bonfire was one of my most fond memories of early festivals at Ear Falls Trout Forest, Red Rock Live from the Rock, Godrich Celtic Festival, Owen Sound Summerfolk and many more i have visited.
In 2025 we began exploring a new idea of bringing a Bluegrass/Folk Music Festival to Loon Lake in support of Camp operations, but also in development of a new beginning and fellowship opportunities for the camp community. Gibson Marten & I had played 2 well attended events held in Thunder Bay. The Bluegrass and Gospel music were the talk of the town and drew fantastic participation.
As for why run a music festival at this sleepy little hidden Gem of the North? The children's camp has the opportunity to offer and do more for the region. With all the necessities met, fire extinguishers ,internet, insurance, water testing, food safety, lifeguards, accessibility, and certified individuals to operate such, we are a solid cared for facility for a wider breadth of events than one might initally think.
But maintenance isn't really the only reason
